Committee

Chairman Greg Round

In 2019 my son George, then 14 wanted to take up the sport following a try dive with the club.

Rather than just being “dad taxi” on open water dive trips, I decided to take up learning to dive too. Having completed my Ocean Diver course and gained a love for the sport George and I progressed through the Sports Diver syllabus during the covid lock downs.

I have since completed my Dive Leader qualification and in 2024 I become an Open Water Instructor.

I am an active UK diver attending club trips to various quarries and coastal sea dives favouring wrecks and scenic dives with seals.

Diving Officer Adrian Carter

I have wanted to be a scuba diver since I was 5 years old and was reminded of this 40 years later when i saw the Club banner in Stafford Leisure Centre. I joned at the end of 2021 and I’m now a Dive Leader and working toward my Instructor qualifications.

My most memorable dive was in Mexico when i came face to face with a huge Moray Eel, but my favourite dives are the wrecks and reefs of UK waters.

Training Officer Esme Meredith

Hallo! I began my diving journey in 2023, and I’ve since become an Assistant Instructor, working on my Dive Leader qualification currently. I aspire to become an Open Water Instructor to bring the world of scuba diving to anyone interested!

I favour wreck dives and my dream is to search for lost wrecks, but I do enjoy a poke around for sea creatures! I love UK diving and I’m always up for a jaunt to the quarry with the club, or a shore dive. I especially keep my eyes peeled for Octopi and hermit crabs!

Equipment Officer Roland Smith

I kind of fell into diving, one of my palls whilst boating abroad in 2005 suggested having a try dive after I complained about the amount of time I could spend underwater with a snorkel! On returning back to the UK, I had a try dive and signed up to do the Ocean Diver course with Stafford Sub Aqua Club. At that time the Ocean Diver was the only level of diving I considered as necessary, but strangely enough a few years later, I’ve now qualified as an Open Water instructor…

For me, time away and especially underwater is relaxing and stimulating. I enjoy the practical instruction element especially and I get a kick out of other people developing their skills and learning to Dive.

I dive both in the UK and overseas, with a particular affinity for the Medes Islands located off the shores of Estartit in Spain.

Welfare Officer Jacqui Hodgkinson

I’ve been a member of the club since 2011. I decided I needed to “learn how to do it properly” after experiencing a succession of amazing try dive experiences in Thailand, Egypt and Kenya.

I completed my Ocean Diver in 2012 and my first open water experience, after qualifying, was a trip to the Farne Islands. Diving with club member Steve Postles I experienced what I can only say was a “moment most people could only dream of” when I came face to face, quite literally, with a seal pup!

Since then I’ve had the opportunity to further my diving with experiences both in the UK and overseas, and I’m now a Dive Leader. AND…………… ask any of my dive buddies, diving with me is definitely an experience that will not be forgotten!

Social & Publicity Officer Jen Maiden

Hi! I’m Jen, I’ve been diving for four years and am a qualified Sport Diver. I enjoy going on the UK dive trips with the club and have been to Lundy (diving with seals!), Farnes, and some of the abroad trips too.

Being underwater is better than therapy, as soon as you learn to relax, adventure awaits!

Secretary Daniel Kirkham

I first did a try dive on my 16th birthday but I decided to take up the sport properly in 2010 after SSAC was promoted during freshers week at Staffs Uni where I studied Mechanical Engineering.

I completed Ocean and Sports diver during my first two years of Uni, and remained a distance member whilst working nearer to my home in Stoke. More recently, I have thrown myself back into the sport with enthusiam attending trips in the UK and abroad with the club.

2025 was a notable year for me, as I acheived two personal milestones: organising a club trip to Cyprus and passing my Dive Leader qualification (much belated some may say!). I’m now hoping to give back to the club which has been such a big part of my life for the past 15 years by joining the committee.

Treasurer Ian Smith

Having wanted to learn to SCUBA since being a teenager, I joined Stafford Sub-Aqua Club in June 2023. I qualified the following January as an Ocean Diver and then completed my Sports Diver in October that same year.

I was elected as treasurer in Jan 2026 as Alan Weaver decided to stand down after 17 years.

Most weekends I am diving with anyone willing to go, quarries, UK, abroad – anywhere! I enjoy that whilst diving you have to give 100% attention and you forget about everything else going on.

Ordinary Member Richard Haughton

I had my first try dive with Stafford Sub-Aqua Club in January 2014 and I was instantly hooked.

I sailed through my Ocean Diver course in record time and progressed to Sport Diver just before a week’s diving holiday around the Medes islands, Spain, in June 2015. I’m now an Advance Diver and qualified as an open water instructor.

I enjoying passing on my enthusiasm to students and coaching them to master new skills.

Ordinary Member Robin Smith

I joined Stafford Dive club in 1996 and qualified as a Novice diver in 1997. I’ve made steady progress through my qualifications and am now an Advanced Diver and Open Water Instructor as well as an Instructor for other skills.

I dive all year and have favourtie spots around the globe. Wrecks and Seahorses fascinate me.
